What Is Included in Move-Out Cleaning?
Quick answer
A move-out cleaning is a top-to-bottom cleaning of an empty home. It typically covers kitchens (including inside cabinets and drawers), bathrooms, closets, baseboards, switches, doors and floors throughout. Inside appliances, interior windows and wall spot-cleaning are often available but should be confirmed in the quote.
Room-by-room
Kitchen
- Inside and outside of cabinets and drawers
- Counters, backsplash, sink and faucet
- Appliance exteriors; refrigerator and oven interiors when included
- Range hood exterior
Bathrooms
- Toilet, tub or shower, sink and fixtures
- Inside vanities and medicine cabinets
- Mirrors and glass
Bedrooms, closets and living areas
- Closet shelves and rods
- Baseboards, door frames, doors
- Light switches and outlet covers
- Window sills; tracks and interior glass when included
- Floors vacuumed and mopped, including edges
What is usually not included
A move-out cleaning is a cleaning service. These are usually separate or need to be discussed in advance:
- Removing furniture, trash or belongings left behind
- Carpet shampooing or steam cleaning
- Washing entire walls or ceilings
- Repairs, painting or patching
- Exterior windows
How to prepare
- Move everything out first. Cabinets, closets and floors can only be fully cleaned when empty.
- Make sure the water and electricity are still on.
- Remove trash and leftover items.
- Share your deadline: lease end, closing or listing date.
- If a landlord or property manager has a checklist, send it with your quote request.
For landlords and realtors
A clean, empty unit photographs and shows better and is ready for the next tenant sooner. Property managers with several units can schedule turnovers ahead of busy lease-end dates.
